Free-agent forward Anthony Tolliver has been deciding over the past week on whether to sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves or the Golden State Warriors.
Tolliver’s agent, Larry Fox, confirmed to FanHouse on Friday his client will join the Timberwolves. According to Chris Tomasson of FanHouse, sources said he’ll get a two-year deal that could be worth as much as $4.8 million.
“He’s really excited,” Fox said. ”He can play (power forward) for them and be a stretch (small forward).”
Tolliver, 25, averaged 11.7 points and 7.0 rebounds last season in 46 games with Portland and Golden State.
Golden State had strong interest in him as well, but Minnesota ended up being the better opportunity. Tolliver’s two-year deal will allow him to expand his game and give him options for future opportunities.
One intriguing thing about Tolliver is that he thrived in Don Nelson’s high-tempo offense with the Warriors last season. Nelson’s high-tempo offense would be comparable to the high-tempo offense the Timberwolves are trying to run.
Update: According to sources, Golden State offered a similar deal but Tolliver ultimately decided to join the Timberwolves.
