Timberwolves Waive West

Sorry to interrupt you from your day-long Favre mania coverage.

As expected the Minnesota Timberwolves released guard Delonte West Tuesday morning, according to the Pioneer Press.

West was acquired last week in a deal that sent center Ryan Hollins and guard Ramon Sessions to the Cleveland Cavaliers.  According to the report, this move clears $4.6 million in salary cap space.

Our understanding is that West has a $500,000 buyout, which mean the Timberwolves cleared closer to $4 million in cap space.

The Timberwolves waited to trade West because of reported trade offers for West’s valuable guaranteed contract.  Ultimately the Timberwolves decided the clear space space was better than the offers they were receiving.
