Judd Zulgad of the Star Tribune reported a couple weeks ago that the Minnesota Vikings offered to increase quarterback Brett Favre’s 2010 base salary of $13 million to $16 million with incentives that would take the deal up to $20 million.
Now that it looks like Favre is going to play this season, Jason La Canfora of NFL Network is reporting Favre’s compensation for 2010 will remain at the $13 million base salary he was due under the two-year contract he signed last August, according to league sources.
This is where it gets interesting.
Zulgad is now reporting, according to NFL sources, that the Vikings continue to express a willingness to pay Favre a base salary of $16 million this season instead of the originally planned $13 million.
Favre did say earlier this month after the Star Tribune originally reported the team would be willing to increase his salary that “it’s not about the money.”
Technically, both La Canfora and Zulgad could be right. The Vikings indeed may be willing to give him more money and Favre simply is just not interested in the extra money.
Looks like we’ll find out Wednesday (hopefully) when the team officially announces Favre’s plan.
