Earlier in the summer Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor spoke about the team’s salary cap flexibility and their ability to pick up salary, suggesting to many fans that the Timberwolves may pick up a big name player.
How about Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony?
According to Sam Amico of TheHoopsNews.com, word around NBA is that the Nuggets will try to trade Carmelo to one of three teams: the Timberwolves, Sacromento Kings, and New Jersey Nets.
What could the Nuggets want from the Timberwolves you may ask?
Maybe draft picks, point guard Jonny Flynn or the rights to point guard Ricky Rubio.
Considering Anthony is expected to become a free-agent next season, why would the Timberwolves, or any other team for that matter offer draft picks and young promising talent? If Anthony hits the market next year, these three teams can simply enter a bidding war and offer a max deal.
Even if the Timberwolves decide to trade for Anthony, what are the chances he re-signs with the team? Would Anthony agree to a contract extension following a trade agreement?
