Mahay, Slowey Headed to DL; Slama, Blackburn Recalled

Minnesota Twins pitchers Ron Mahay and Kevin Slowey were placed on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced shortly after Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Angles.

Pitchers Anthony Slama and Nick Blackburn have been called up to replace Mahay and Slowey on the active roster.

Slowey left the game with triceps discomfort, and Mahay left the game with a right shoulder injury.  Both players are expected to be re-evaluated on Monday.

The fact that the Twins went ahead and placed both players on the DL suggests the team’s concern over the seriousness of the injuries.  The Twins’ bullpen has been overused as well and certainly could use extra arms.
