Griffin Will Miss First Regular Season Game

Minnesota Vikings assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier says cornerback Cedric Griffin will “definitely” miss the season opener against the New Orleans Saints while he recovers from offseason knee surgery.

Griffin has expressed a lot of optimism since tearing the ACL in his left knee in the NFC championship game against the Saints in January.

The time of the regular season opener would put him at 7 months of recovery time since having surgery, whereas athletes typically wait 8-9 months before they are game-ready.

Cornerbacks Lito Sheppard and Benny Sapp are favorites to replace him in the starting lineup at the beginning of the season.  Sheppard has received the most playing time at right corner (the position Griffin plays) so far in training camp.
