The Star Tribune reported early Tuesday that kicker Ryan Longwell, guard Steve Hutchinson and defensive end Jared Allen were all absent from the Minnesota Vikings’ morning practice and were en route to Hattiesburg, Miss., for a visit with quarterback Brett Favre.
By mid-day Favre was on a private jet headed to Eden Prairie.
In addition, this message appears on officialbrettfavre.com: “Thank you for visiting Brett Favre’s website. We are awaiting a statement soon from the Vikings. As soon as this is available we will pass it along.”
Some reports say the Vikings sent their trio of players to lure and/or beg Favre to return for another season. Truth is, nobody knows the real story…. yet.
Some truly believe Favre was uncertain about playing and some believe Favre was inevitably coming back, but the team wanted him up as soon as possible. Who knows.
One thing for sure is Dr. James Andrews cleared Favre for play last week, although Favre reportedly was not feeling ready to return on Monday. Favre did say he would return to the Vikings to play in the 2010 season if his ankle checked out fine.
It appears the team will not hold a press conference or release a statement Tuesday, but the news of Favre returning for another season is no secret. Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, tackle Bryant McKinnie and receiver Bernard Berrian has posted and responded to Twitter messages about Favre since his arrival.
None of the messages suggested Favre was retiring and every bit suggested Favre is playing another year.
