Clearly, it’s not about the money.
Sources report Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre can earn up to $28 million in a newly agreed upon restructured deal, according to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network.
Favre was originally scheduled to earn $13 million for 2010 as originally agreed upon when he signed his two-year contract in 2009.
According to the report, Favre will receive up to $3 million in a new signing bonus. He will earn another $4 million in new incentives based largely on the Vikings’ playoff performance this season.
Be aware that $8 million is included in this sum as it is deferred money due from last season’s $12 million salary. The Vikings technically paid Favre only $4 million last season. (Favre would have seen the final $8 million of his first year’s salary in installments even if he were to have retired)
Even with excluding the $8 million to be paid from last season, Favre can be earning up to $20 million for just 2010 alone.
To sum things up: $8 million due from last year + $13 million base salary + $3 million new signing bonus + $4 million in new incentives = $28 million.
