2010 Second Round Draft Pick Chooses Spain Over Timberwolves

Minnesota Timberwolves 2010 second-round draft pick forward Nemanja Bejelica has signed a five-year deal with Caja Laboral of the ACB league, according to Spanish sports website Baskonia.com.

The terms of the deal were not announced.

Bejelica, the 35th overall selection of the 2010 NBA Draft, will still technically be under the Timberwolves’ control if or when he decides to come to the United States.  According to the collective bargaining agreement, as long as Behelica is playing in a CBA-approved professional basketball league, he will remain under the Timberwolves’ control.

The 22-year-old forward arrives to Spain after playing during the last two seasons for Red Star, averaging 18.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in the 2009-10 Serbian Super League.

Bejelica was originally drafted by the Washington Wizards, but was traded on draft-day along with forward Lazar Hayward (30th pick overall) to Minnesota for the 23rd selection, forward Trevor Booker, and the 56th overall selection, center Hamady N’Diaye.
