Vikings Player Updates for Camp

Minnesota Vikings players are filing their way into Mankato as they prepare for training camp.

Here are some player injury and camp updates:

It appears linebacker E.J. Henderson will be cleared for at least partial participation when practice begins at 4 p.m. Friday, according to Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com.  Henderson had a conversation with coach Brad Childress on Wednesday and he appears optimistic about participating.

“Hopefully … we’re leaning towards start off slow and gradually increase the work that I do,” Henderson said.  ”That’s what I would like.  We had that conversation (Wednesday).  So, it’s up to him and the trainers what we do.”

Meanwhile EJ’s brother, Erin Henderson, has shown up to camp weighing in at a “lean mean”  239.7 lbs.  Henderson played last season at 244 lbs.

And speaking of weight loss, defensive tackle Pat Williams claims to be down to 324 lbs after losing 18 lbs during the offseason.  Williams also told reporters the elbow that plagued him last year is no longer an issue.

Another non-issue injury is rookie cornerback Chris Cook‘s hamstring injury that sidelined him for most of minicamp.  Cook told reporters he is “ready to come out and perform and get ready to get on the field.”

Offensive guard Steve Hutchinson said his surgically repaired shoulder feels fine, according to Judd Zulgad of the Star Tribune.

Also feeling fine is receiver Percy Harvin.  Harvin told Minnesota Sports Zone that past migraine issues are not a big problem and that “all is well.”

One player not fine is cornerback Cedric Griffin who is likely to end up on the PUP list.  Griffin is currently projected to return sometime during the season.

Update:  Receiver Sidney Rice will open the season on the physically unable to perform list.
