Timberwolves Agree to Three-Year Deal With Pekovic

The Minnesota Timberwolves agreed to a three-year $13 million deal with 2008 2nd round pick center Nikola Pekovic, according Chad Ford of ESPN.com.

Pekovic is set to earn $4 million for the first year of the contract.

For those wondering why Pekovic was able to receive such a substantial contract, second round picks are not subject to the rookie wage scale.

Meanwhile, Timberwolves’ president David Kahn said the deal isn’t finished, but is “very, very close.”  So barring a major breakdown of the deal, the official announcement should come very soon.
