Possible Timberwolves, Mavericks Deal?

Minnesota Timberwolves’ power forward/center Al Jefferson has been a subject of numerous trade rumors in the past few weeks.

We have a speculative “rumor” to add to the mix.

The Dallas Mavericks are hunting for a center to play next to power forward Dirk Nowitzki, who recently agreed to a long-term deal to remain with the Mavericks.  They have center Erick Dampier and his non-guaranteed $13 million contract on their roster as trade bait.

Timberwolves’ president David Kahn appears to want to trade Jefferson, although he hasn’t been that forthcoming to the press.  If Kahn is as serious about signing power forward/center David Lee as he makes it seem, the Mavericks are a good trade partner that can make it possible.

The Timberwolves could ship Jefferson to the Mavericks, and the Mavericks could send back Dampier and possibly another asset, such as guard Rodrigue Beaubois or draft pick guard Dominique Jones.  Heck, Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune thinks it is a possibility.

Lee’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, may have hinted at this scenario when he said the Timberwolves “got some ability to make some moves quickly so they’d have the ability to sign David.”

I can’t think of another trade that would make sense for both teams as well as create cap space for the Timberwolves to sign Lee.
