Earlier we reported the Minnesota Vikings were interested in free-agent running back Brian Westbrook and were looking to set up a meeting with him, according to a source.
A latest development may have changed things for both sides. While most of the NFL “experts” around the Internet believe Westbrook is only capable of being a limited reserve who should specifically only play and practice on grass (because of concerns of his ankle), a source tells us Westbrook is looking for a starting opportunity and at this point is not looking to concede to signing a lower-value contract.
The source tells us that Westbrook would be interested in a reserve role, only if he can be guaranteed a certain role with so-and-so carries. The Vikings do not view him much more than a third-down back, especially with his recent dealings with concussion issues.
The Vikings are certainly interested, but the cards are in the hands of Westbrook. But the feeling right now is that Westbrook might not have the chance to even deal his hand with his current demands.
