Update: Tomlinson is scheduled to visit the Vikings on Thursday. (03/09/10)
Judd Zulgad (Star Tribune) reports the Minnesota Vikings “appear to have interest” in free-agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson.
According to Zulgad, Tomlinson won’t approach the $5 million salary he was due to earn this upcoming season from the San Diego Chargers before getting cut. Zulgad also writes that the Vikings “aren’t believed to have expressed interest” in running back Brian Westbrook.
Update: Adam Schefter (ESPN Insider) via Twitter confirmed the Vikings and Tomlinson are talking but said no deal is imminent. Schefter also mentions other teams are also talking to the running back but is not sure which teams. (03/09/10)
Minnesota Sports Zone’s Take:
I’m surprised the Vikings have interest in Tomlinson, but the big question is whether or not Tomlinson would accept a limited role with the Vikings.
Zulgad notes that the Vikings “aren’t believed to have expressed interest” in Westbrook.
I can assure that the Vikings certainly did have interest in Westbrook before finding out the veteran running back still feels he can be a starter in this league and handle more than a limited role. I stand by my source 100%
Westbrook most likely will not be a Viking if they only offer him a limited role. I would not be surprised if the Vikings get the same response from Tomlinson if offered just a third-down back role.
Update: Star Tribune has edited the original Tomlinson report and has removed the part that said the Vikings “aren’t believed to have expressed interest” in Westbrook. (03/09/10)
