Free-agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson arrived a day ahead of schedule to have dinner with Minnesota Vikings’ officials in Minneapolis Wednesday night.
Tomlinson was originally scheduled to visit with Vikings’ officials on Thursday.
KFAN broke the news earlier today and Judd Zulgad (Star Tribune) confirmed that Tomlinson indeed arrived early.
Per Mark Rosen (WCCO) via Twitter, Tomlinson told WCCO 4 News that he wants to become a Viking to win a Super Bowl.
WCCO 4 News airs at 10 p.m. Central Time. Rosen broke the news before the video bit airs on television.
From ESPN.com Blog: Meanwhile, he told WCCO that it would be a “blast” to play with quarterback Brett Favre and said he is confident he would coexist well with starting tailback Adrian Peterson.
“I definitely can,” Tomlinson said. “I would be coming here for him. He’s in the prime of his career. I’ve done what he’s trying to do, except win a championship.”
Update: Zulgad via Twitter adds that defensive tackle Pat Williams joined the dinner with Tomlinson. Also adds the Vikings’ officials consisted of head coach Brad Childress, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and running back’s coach Eric Bieniemy.
Update: Tomlinson told Zulgad that his agent, Tom Condon, is in the Twin Cities. Also said he has another potential visit if things don’t work out in Minnesota. Did not say which team it was.
Minnesota Sports Zone’s Take:
Expect a deal done by Thursday.
