Joe Montana recently told ESPN that he is confident Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback Brett Favre knows he will play next season but isn’t announcing anything because the 40-year-old doesn’t want to go through training camp.
When we brought this story up to tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, he simply said to us: “he doesn’t need training camp.”
Defensive tackle Kevin Williams already said back in January that he wouldn’t mind if Favre skipped camp again.
“He’s had his share of training camps,” Williams said. “He still came out and had a great year, and it wasn’t even a factor. So it really won’t matter at all to me.”
We have a very strong feeling other players on the team feel the same way as Shiancoe and Williams, especially if that means he will come back for another season. If what Montana believes is true, Favre should have no problem announcing his intentions of returning next season.
Update: Linebacker Erin Henderson agreed with Shiancoe and Williams when we asked him if he’d mind if Favre skipped training camp if it meant Favre would come back.
“Not at all,” Henderson said. “He did it last year and y’all see how that turned out.”
