Reports from the Minnesota Twins are (not surprisingly) that pitcher Joe Nathan’s Tommy John surgery went well.
Dr. David Altchek performed the surgery in New York on Friday. He replaced Nathan’s UCL with a ligament from Nathan’s left wrist.
GM Bill Smith said that Nathan’s UCL was completely torn instead of the reports of a “large” tear. Nathan will fly back to Fort Myers on Saturday.
Nathan is expected to miss around 12 months. Some pitchers return as early as 9 months to pitch, but in some cases, it may take up to 18 months or more.
