Yesterday, we posted a bit that the Minnesota Vikings were not “in the mix” for Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Donovan McNabb, who is apparently being shopped around the league.
Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports, according to sources close to the situation, the number one choice for McNabb to be traded to would be… Minnesota.
As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports said, “A certain number four, however, has first dibs before number five.”
Adam Schefter of ESPN.com is surprised about McNabb’s interest in the Vikings. “Interesting that Donovan McNabb wants to play in Minnesota,” Schefter said. “Problems is, everyone around league expects Brett Favre to be back with Vikings.”
Coach Brad Childress originally said that he would allow Favre to rejoin the team during training camp, but it would be interesting to see if this latest development will accelerate a decision from the 40-year-old quarterback. A chance to add a Pro Bowl quarterback with the lingering uncertainty of Favre’s decision is something for Childress to think about.
The Associated Press reported last night that in a trade for McNabb, the Eagles would not accept anything less than a top-42 pick in this year’s draft. This likely means the Vikings would likely have to give up their 1st-round (30th overall) draft pick for NcNabb.
