The Minnesota Twins announced Wednesday they have agreed to a minor-league deal with lefty-specialist Ron Mahay.
The 38-year-old has an invitation to Spring Training, and could be the lefty option for the Twins’ bullpen if pitcher’s Francisco Liriano or Jose Mijares becomes the team’s closer. Pitcher Brian Duensing is another left-handed pitcher on the Twins’ roster who is being considered for the fifth spot in the rotation as well as the bullpen.
Mahay joined the Twins last season after the Royals released him in late August. Mahay posted a 2.00 ERA in 16 outings with Minnesota.
