Updated: Liriano Expected to Get the Final Rotation Spot

When speculation of pitcher Francisco Liriano becoming the closer began, manager Ron Gardenhire told the lefty that they are preparing him for the rotation.

Kelsie Smith of the Pioneer Press reports Liriano “has the big advantage” to win the final spot in the starting rotation.

“I would say Liriano has the big advantage going right now,” Gardenhire said.  “He’s the guy we’re looking at to be our fifth starter. … We’re going to let them all keep pitching, but Liriano, the way he’s throwing the ball, he’s ahead of everybody.”

Pitcher Brian Duensing, who is technically still battling for the same rotation rotation spot, can still make the Twins’ roster in the bullpen.

Update:  If Liriano becomes the fifth starter, Gardenhire said Duensing is sure to be in the bullpen.
