Rick Alonzo (Pioneer Press) reports Minnesota Vikings’ cornerback Antoine Winfield visited a foot specialist Thursday and will not need surgery, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
Per the report, Winfield was told to rest his foot and it will naturally heal on it’s own. Rumors following the NFC Championship game (which we jumped on) were saying Winfield re-injured his foot, but apparently no further damage was done.
Alonzo said Winfield did not participate in the Pro Bowl because he did not want to further injure his foot. Sounds as if Winfield could have played had the Vikings moved on to the Super Bowl.
Looks like Winfield is good for next season. Same cannot be said for cornerback Cedric Griffin who could miss some of not all of next season after suffering a torn ligament in his knee during the NFC Championship game.
