Twins Waive Pridie, Welcome Back Jones

The Minnesota Twins waived outfielder Jason Pridie in order to make room for recently signed second baseman Orlando Hudson on the 40-man roster.

Pridie was quickly picked up by the New York Mets.

The big news is the Twins signed former Twin outfielder Jacque Jones to a minor-league deal with a Spring Training invite.  Jones fits in as a reserve, as he plays well defensively at all three outfield positions as well as possess some pop to his bat.

Jones’ career took a steep fall during his 2007 and 2008 seasons.  He went from 27 home runs in 533 plate appearances in 2006 to 5 home runs in 453 plate appearances in 2007.  His .285 batting average in 2007 dropped to a .147 batting average for 42 games while with the Detroit Tigers and Florida Marlins in 2008.

The Twins will attempt to revive his career for the team he played many years for.

“He’s looking to continue his career,” said Twins’ GM Bill Smith. “He’s been a good player.  He’s one of the reasons this team became competitive earlier in the decade.  We’re glad to have him back in our organization.”
