Twins Sign ‘All-Star’ Outfielder To Minor-League Deal

Nick Sciarratta (Official Red Wings Website) reports the Minnesota Twins agreed to a minor-league deal with outfielder Charlton Jimerson.

Jimerson, 30, was an Atlantic League All-Star in 2009, leading the league with a .335 batting average.  He hit 21 home runs with 62 RBI and stole 38 bases in 103 games for the Newark Bears.

Minnesota Sports Zone’s Take:

Jimerson provides the Twins a reserve plan for center field in case outfielder Denard Span goes down with an injury for an extended period of time.  Outfielder Jacque Jones is an option, but Jimerson’s defensive abilities make Jimerson a better option.

Judging by his career numbers plus his defensive capabilities and excellent year with the Bears last season, he has a legitimate shot at making the Twins’ roster as a reserve.  If not, he is certain to get a call if any injuries occur (hoping that won’t happen).

[...] Huynh of the Minnesota Sports Zone blog seems to think Jimerson could make the Twins in a reserve role, but that’s probably just wishful thinking. [...]
