The Minnesota Twins are intensifying their pursuit for free-agent second baseman Orlando Hudson, a major league source told FOXSports.com on Thursday morning.
The report said GM Bill Smith declined to comment about any potential free-agent signings this week. This is not surprising because Smith never comments about any kind of free-agent signing or trade.
With that said, Joe Christensen (Star Tribune) believes the Twins are in great position to land Hudson because the second baseman is reportedly deciding between the Washington Nationals and the Twins. The Nationals finished 59-103 last season. so if he wants to play a contender, the Twins would be the clear choice.
Christensen also notes the Twins are is good position to land pitcher Jarod Washburn as well. He said the Twins will offer a certain price, but walk away if Washburn doesn’t accept since the Twins have options in left-handed pitcher’s Francisco Liriano, Brian Duensing and Glen Perkins.
