Minnesota Twins’ GM Bill Smith said the team does not expect to add more players/salary this offseason during a conference call Friday afternoon.
“I think we’re getting toward the upper [payroll] extremes of where we can be,” Smith said. “We’re excited to take this team to Fort Myers.”
This likely means the Twins will not be signing free-agent pitcher Jarod Washburn, who reportedly rejected a one-year $5 million offer earlier in the offseason. For some most fans, this is good news.
Free-agent third baseman Joe Crede’s era with the Twins is likely over as well.
The team does need to remove a player from the 40-man roster in order to make room for Hudson, but Smith said he’ll announce that sometime next week. Hudson is scheduled to take is physical in Fort Myers Monday.
