The Minnesota Vikings are expected to meet with the agent for running back Chester Taylor later this week at the NFL combine, according to the Star Tribune.
The report also said the team is expected to touch base with the agents of the team’s other unrestricted free-agents. The list includes offensive lineman Artis Hicks, defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy, receiver Greg Lewis and cornerback Benny Sapp.
CJ Siewert (Vikings.com Blog) believes Taylor is capable of being a starter for another NFL team.
Minnesota Sports Zone’s Take:
Taylor is the best option behind running back Adrian Peterson. There is talk around the Internet that the Vikings should target free-agent running back’s Brian Westbrook and LaDanian Tomlinson.
Taylor is a player we know can get the job done and already knows the offense. Westbrook and Tomlinson are big question marks as to how much they have left in the tank.
Even if Taylor leaves during free-agency, signing the other veteran free-agents is still questionable. Running backs are easy to get through the draft, and a solid back up can be found in this upcoming draft. For example, I believe Taylor was a sixth round pick by the Baltimore Ravens.
