Minnesota Timberwolves’ team president David Kahn told Wolves’ radio Voice Alan Horton that he would welcome back power forward Brian Cardinal if no team picks him up in the next 30 days following his release from the New York Knicks.
NBA rules say that the Timberwolves will have to wait 30 days before they could sign him again.
The Timberwolves traded Cardinal to the Knicks for center Darko Milicic Wednesday, but the Knicks plan on (if not already) releasing Cardinal. Kahn said in his interview with Horton that he tried to trade center Mark Blount instead, but Cardinal’s contract worked better for the Knicks.
Minnesota Sports Zone’s Take:
Trading Cardinal is tough because he is a great locker-room presence. There is a good chance that he goes unsigned after being released from the Knicks, so the team could possibly re-sign Cardinal.
