Steve Wyche (NFL.com Blogs) reports Minnesota Vikings’ defensive end Ray Edwards has a mildly sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee, according to a source with knowledge of the diagnosis.
The diagnosis typically means the injury is day-to-day in football terms. Ultimately, the source (via NFL.com) said Edwards should be okay to play Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
Coach Brad Childress said during his press conference Monday afternoon that Edwards was getting checked out and worked on by the training/medical staff, and that if Edwards was able, he would play. Childress said more information would be known by Wednesday, the day that injury reports happen to be due.
Update: Childress told Sirius that Edward spent seven hours at the team facility Tuesday. Vikings were off but Edwards was getting treatment. (01/19/10)
Update: The team and Edwards himself are mum about his status for Sunday. The feeling is that he will play, but the team is likely trying to keep it hidden from the Saints. (01/21/10)
