Minnesota Vikings’ cornerback told Rachel Nichols (ESPN) that he will be playing short-yardage situations Sunday against the New York Giants.
This information came through Mike Florio (ProFootballTalk). We figured to give him credit for catching Nichols’ report.
What is not clear is if short-yard situations means “running situations,” or if it means “goal-line” situations. It could possibly mean both, but it wouldn’t make sense switch cornerbacks back-and-forth just because you may suspect the offense to be passing. Regardless, if teams feel they can pass deep on Winfield, all they need to do is audible while he is on the field.
We’ll just have to wait and see.
