Twins Were Not Seriously Considering Beltre

Despite multiple Internet reports (including the ones we posted) surrounding the Minnesota Twins and free-agent third baseman Adrian Beltre, the Twins were “never really in” on the former Seattle Mariner, according to a team official.

This does not come as a surprise because the third baseman has declined to even consider joining the Twins back when he was a member of the Mariners.  A couple seasons back with his no-trade-clause, Beltre reportedly vetoed a trade to Minnesota before the two teams could even discuss a deal.

Beltre reportedly agreed to a one-year deal worth $9 million deal with the Boston Red Sox Monday.  The deal is believed to include a player-option for a second year but barring a huge bust season, Beltre is expected to hit the market again next offseason.

The latest third baseman signing strengthens the likeliness of the Twins re-signing third baseman Joe Crede to another one-year incentive-laden type deal.
