Punto To Have Wrist Surgery; Should Not Affect Opening Day

Minnesota Twins’ infielder (and possible starting second- or third baseman) Nick Punto is in Arizona Friday to have a minor surgery on his wrist, but the team expects him to be ready when positional players report for Spring Training.

The surgery is a simple cleanup procedure, but the timing is still somewhat questionable considering Spring Training is very near.  With the team only set at shortstop and first base in the infield, Punto is a leading candidate to start at one of the two positions.

Punto, 32, is in the final year of his two-year $8 million contract he signed at the start of last season.
