John Shipley (Pioneer Press) reports Minnesota Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire is excited about pitcher Francisco Liriano and his progress this offseason.
“I just got a report that he’s throwing the living fire out of the ball down in the Dominican (Republic),” Gardenhire said to the Pioneer Press. “He threw eight innings the other day, and his fastball was 92 to 94 (mph) and his slider was filthy. That’s a really good thing, because he can be the bonus if we can get him on track.”
The Twins are quietly becoming a very good looking ball-club, with the re-signing of pitcher Carl Pavano and acquisition of shortstop J.J. Hardy. The final roster move could be to re-signing of third baseman Joe Crede towards spring training, which would pretty much fill up the roster.
If Liriano bounces back, the Twins would have a solid rotation of pitcher’s Pavano, Liriano, Scott Baker, Kevin Slowey and Nick Blackburn.
