Sean Jensen (Sun-Times) reports Minnesota Vikings’ cornerback Cedric Griffin is expected to get an MRI soon, and may have a torn ligament in the ACL and possibly his MCL, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Griffin suffered the injury on the opening overtime kickoff return by New Orleans Saints’ Pierre Thomas. Cornerback Asher Allen replaced him in the lineup for last drive of the game.
If the MRI reveals a torn ligament in the ACL (possibly MCL as well), Griffin’s injury could certainly force him to miss next season. Depending on the severity, Griffin’s injury could be career-threatening, especially for the position he plays.
Update: Former Vikings’ cornerback Marcus McCauley confirmed via Twitter that Griffin has a serious knee injury.
“Everyone please pray for my good friend and former teammate Cedric Griffin,” McCauley said via Twitter. “He suffered a serious injury in yesterdays game.” (01/25/10)
