Minnesota Vikings’ cornerback Antoine Winfield is not expected to play this Sunday against the Detroit Lions, while the team is eying his return for week 11, according to various Internet sources.
This is not exactly new news to us. We predicted that Winfield would sit out against the Lions because of his importance to the team as they begin to get ready for playoff football, and that playing him against the Lions when he is not 100% is a risk they shouldn’t and wouldn’t take.
Cornerback’s Karl Paymah, Benny Sapp and Asher Allen has done a great job replacing Winfield’s presence on the defense, playing well against great passing teams such as the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers (although some may argue about the Packers having a great passing attack). Expect all three cornerbacks to see time at the left corner position Winfield usually occupies.
