Realistic Options? Feliz, Lopez and Sheets?

Howard Sinker (Fan’s View Blog @ Star Tribune) listed a few players he believes are realistic options for filling the Minnesota Twins’ roster.

Here is a list of players he considers “affordable,” or at least a fix without spending huge money.

Third Base – Pedro Feliz:  Sinker said the Twins should and could sign Feliz at a modest value of $5 million with a few incentives.  “I’ll take a solid glove and some power at that position, and feel just fine about seeing him at the bottom of the order,” Sinker said.

Second Base – Felipe Lopez:  Sinker said the Twins are more likely to sign Feliz over second baseman Orlando Hudson.  Sinker said Hudson’s asking price is too high and he sees Lopez as “a younger, cheaper version of Hudson.”

Starting Pitcher – Ben Sheets:  Sinker said the Twins can afford the risk of signing Sheets, because he has a lot to prove this upcoming season and would have a high ceiling if he could return to his old form.  “He missed the entire 2009 season after major surgery to reconstruct his right elbow and will likely be forced to take a low-base, high-incentive deal,” Sinker said.

Plus, some say he looks like Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback Brett Favre.

Favre is a player from Wisconsin that came to Minnesota and saved a franchise.  Maybe another player from Wisconson can come do the same for a different pro Minnesota sports team?
