Tim Dierkes (MLB Trade Rumors) believes the Minnesota Twins will land free-agent third baseman Adrian Beltre this offseason.
Dierkes compiled a list of the top 50 free agents available along with the team he expects the free agent to sign with. The ninth best player available, Beltre, was listed right next to the Twins.
“The Twins made a large upgrade at shortstop by acquiring J.J. Hardy,” said Dierkes. “Beltre would give them fantastic left-side infield defense and another possible 20 home run bat.”
The Twins reportedly had interest in Beltre for at least the past couple seasons, but the Mariners were asking for too much in return, in addition to Beltre adding the Twins to his no-trade clause.
Note: Dierkes also expects pitcher Carl Pavano and shortstop Orlando Cabrera to sign with other teams. The addition of shortstop J.J. Hardy makes Cabrera expendable and the price tag for Pavano may be too much the the Twins.
