The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired power forward Nathan Jawai and cash considerations from the Dallas Mavericks for a 2012 conditional second-round and cash considerations.
With injuries to forward’s Kevin Love (hand) and Al Jefferson (achilles’ tendon), Timberwolves’ president David Kahn was working on a deal to bring in a big man. Kahn did not want to add salary past this season, and was able to find a suitor in Dallas.
Jawai, 23, was a second-round pick of the Indiana Pacers in 2008. He was eventually traded to Toronto Raptors in the deal with power forward/center Jermaine O’Neal.
Jawai appeared in only six games with Toronto and finished last season with the Idaho Stampede of the D-League, averaging 11.1 points and 6.4 rebounds.
At 6’10”, Jawai may see some time at center as well as his natural power forward position.
