The Minnesota Vikings listed cornerback Antoine Winfield as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Multiple reports including the Star Tribune, ESPN.com, CBSSports.com, and Associated Press suggests cornerback Benny Sapp is likely to start in place of Winfield at left corner. Judd Zulgad (Star Tribune) believes the Vikings will start Sapp at left corner, but shift inside to nickel in nickel situations with cornerback Karl Paymah slotted at left.
If Winfield is out, cornerback Asher Allen will likely be activated for the first time in his pro career. Allen as the ability to play on the outside as well as in nickel situations.
Update: Steelers’ safety Troy Polamalu is expected to play.
