Vikings Win; Leave With Injured Players

By Nam Huynh on Sunday, 18th October 2009 Vikings Win; Leave With Injured Players thumbnail

The Minnesota Vikings won against the Baltimore Ravens Sunday, but the team left the field with injuries to four key players.

Cornerback Antoine Winfield was hurt on Baltimore’s first series of the second quarter with an injury to his right foot. Winfield wanted to get back into the game after getting his foot examined on the sidelines, but coach Brad Childress and the team decided it was best to keep him out.

Cornerback Benny Sapp appeared to have suffered what appeared to a be a shoulder injury and a possible concussion in the second quarter. Sapp returned as the nickel corner in the second half of the game, after tests determined he did not suffer a concussion.

Receiver Percy Harvin re-aggravated his left shoulder on a kick return in the fourth quarter, and left the team’s sidelines on a cart. Coach Brad Childress said he wasn’t sure how severe the injury was.

Running back Adrian Peterson hurt his left ankle in the fourth quarter when linebacker Dannell Ellerbe tackled him in the backfield on a running play. Peterson appeared to get his legs tangled while getting brought down.

Peterson eventually came back and told reporters following the game that he felt fine. Regardless of what he said following the game, the injury clearly bothered him at the time and ankle injuries are not exactly friendly for running backs.

Update: Harvin’s shoulder was x-rayed following the game, and the shoulder appeared to be fine. Right now, Childress is saying the shoulder seems to be okay, but “[It's] just uncomfortable in there.”

Update: Many rumors around the web says Winfield injured his toe. Winfield himself said his foot injury was on the top of his foot, not toes.
