The Minnesota Twins called up third baseman Brian Buscher, as active rosters expanded today. The team originally did not plan on calling anyone up right away, but some last-minute discussions between manager Ron Gardenhire and general manager Bill Smith resulted in Buscher’s call up.
Buscher can play both at third base and at first base, as well. He will likely be used as a left-handed pinch-hitter, but may see some time at third base, especially if third baseman Joe Crede continues to have problems with his strained back.
The team does expect to call up infielder Matt Tolbert and possibly pitcher Anthony Swarzak when the season ends for AAA Rochester on September 7th. Tolbert is battling a knee injury, but they injury should not keep him from joining the Twins.
