Wolves Sign Sessions To Four-Year Deal

Chris Sheridan (ESPN.com) reports the Minnesota Timberwolves signed restricted free agent point guard Ramon Sessions to a four-year $16 million offer sheet.  The Milkwaukee Bucks will now have seven days to match the Timberwolves’ offer, and according to ESPN, the Bucks are not expected to match.

This development comes after point guard Ricky Rubio declined to come to the NBA right away and continue to play at home in Spain.  All indications are the Timberwolves are still interested in playing a high-tempo basketball featuring two point guards.

The Bucks have only $1.6 million under the NBA’s luxury tax threshold, and already have money towards first-round pick point guard Brandon Jennings and veteran point guard Luke Ridnour.  Sessions’ deal includes a player option for the fourth season, which would put the Bucks over the luxury tax threshold.

Sessions, 23, is a highly regarded point guard, said to be pursued by the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers.  He appeared in only 17 games his rookie season, but blossomed his sophomore year, appearing in 79 games (39 as a starter), while  averaging 12.4 points and 5.7 assists.
