NFL Determined To Appeal Ruling For Williamses

Brian Murphy (Pioneer Press) reports the National Football League has indicated the league will seek to overturn the federal appeals court ruling that cleared Minnesota Vikings’ defensive tackles Kevin and Pat Williams to play the rest of the season.

The league had a Friday deadline to challenge the three-judge panel’s decision, but asked the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in a motion for two more weeks to appeal to the full panel of 11 judges.

The move shows the NFL wants the 8th Circuit to decide the issue before it hits the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mike Florio (ProFootballTalk.com) , who was a former lawyer, had suggested the league concede their loss on this case and come to an agreement with the union that closes the loophole for states that have laws giving certain players advantages over the drug testing program.
