Charley Walters (Pioneer Press) believes Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback Brett Favre is playing well enough to return next year. According to Walters, regardless of if Favre returns or not, the Vikings “at whatever cost”, should move up in April’s NFL draft to take a young quarterback from among several bona fide prospects who will be available.
If the Vikings completely lost faith is quarterback’s Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson, I’m sure the team would like for Favre to return for a second season and have his replacement (young drafted quarterback) groom while on the bench. If Favre were to not return, I would not be surprised if they still move up for a quarterback and hand the offense to Rosenfels for a season or two.
Favre, 39, has only been the Vikings’ quarterback for three games, and a lot can change through a whole NFL season. Favre has a two-year deal worth $25 million, but the second year of the contract is not guaranteed, and future hall-of-famer will likely have the decision on whether to come back or not.
