What Is With The T-Jack & Anti-Favre Rumors?

By Nam Huynh on Wednesday, 26th August 2009 What Is With The T-Jack & Anti-Favre Rumors? thumbnail

Adam Schefter (ESPN.com Insider) and Mike Florio (ProFootballTalk) are posting rumblings that Minnesota Vikings’ players are supporting quarterback Tarvaris Jackson and even Sage Rosenfels over quarterback Brett Favre.  Schefter reports there are “little support” for Favre, while Florio is posting that a “faction” of the team wants Jackson at quarterback.

Schefter and Florio must be taken seriously, because both are respectable insiders who have reported many breaking news in the past.  With that said, direct quotes from players and local Vikings’ beat writers are not seeing any signs of support for Jackson and/or nonsupport for Favre.

Chip Scoggins and Judd Zulgad of the Star Tribune follow the Vikings daily, and have been at every open training camp session as well as any other Viking event so far this season.  The same can be said for Sean Jenson and Rick Alonzo of the Pioneer Press as well.

The Star Tribune writers have said on their live chat sessions themselves that they have not seen or have gotten any feeling that the team is divided about their quarterback situation.  In fact, they feel players seem genuinely excited about Favre and their outlook for the upcoming season.

Jenson recently posted an article with comments from Vikings’ head coach Brad Childress, basically stating that he saw no evidence of favoritism or “faction” over Jackson among his players.  Scoggins and Zulgad got comments from running back Adrian Peterson basically mirroring his coach’s statements.

Of course there is a sense of bias between local media and nationwide media, but one side has to have it truer than the other.  The stories simply contradict each other, so someone is not telling the truth or maybe the local media truly do not see the “locker-room issues”.

Ever since the signing of Favre, at least a dozen Vikings players have said something positive about the acquisition of the future hall-of-famer.  Granted, the players may feel obligated to say the right thing, if they really didn’t agree with the signing of Favre, one would think someone other than nationwide insiders would hear something.

Regardless of the player’s support, whether it’s for Jackson or Favre (or even Rosenfels), if Favre plays well against the Houston Texans on Monday night, this “issue” is no longer an issue (at least, we hope).

  1. I agree. Favre plays well and the team wins, all will be forgotten.
