The Minnesota Vikings released receiver Glenn Holt this morning. Holt was originally signed to boost the team’s return game, but with the addition of receiver Percy Harvin and the progression of receiver Jaymar Johnson, Holt was a very long shot at making the team this year.
Both Johnson and Harvin are expected to return kickoffs, and Johnson is expected to be the main punt returner. The team has plenty of depth in the return game, with running back Chester Taylor and receiver’s Bobby Wade and Sidney Rice available as well.
Drew Rosenhaus posted the news on his twitter and expects his client to be claimed on waivers by another team. Holt holds value as a viable kick-returner, as he led the Cincinnati Bengals in kickoff returns the past two seasons before he joined the Vikings.
