Vikings’ Quarterback Rotation For Monday Night

Rick Alonzo (Pioneer Press) reports the Minnesota Vikings will have quarterback Brett Favre play the first half of the game on Monday night, with quarterback Tarvaris Jackson entering second and quarterback Sage Rosenfels entering third.  Alonzo cites a “person with knowledge of the situation” as his source for the information.

Quarterback John David Booty was not mentioned in Alonzo’s report, but he’ll at least get some playing time in the fourth preseason game.  The fourth preseason game is generally considered the game where final position spots are battled for and key players (mainly starters) try to stay healthy.

The interesting thing to take out of the quarterback rotation, is that Jackson is entering second.  Having him play second may be a strategic move to improve his trade-value and showcase his ability on Monday Night Football with at least the second-team offense.

The trade-value talk is pure speculation on my behalf, but it does make sense.  Although some local media have indicated the Vikings may carry four quarterbacks heading into the season, I doubt the Vikings would ideally want to carry four, and would rather trade one and get value for it.

I don’t think Tarvaris Jackson or Booty have that much trade value.
