Mike Wobschall (Vikings.com) posted various blogs today with quotes from various Minnesota Vikings’ players regarding the signing of quarterback Brett Favre. Overall, Wobschall sees the Favre and Vikings connection as a “perfect fit“, as the team brings stability to the quarterback position.
Here are some quotes from Vikings players and owner Zygi Wilf, with thanks to Wobschall and the official Vikings’ blog:
RB Adrian Peterson
“It is a unique situation to be able to add a player such as Brett Favre,” Adrian Peterson said. “Any time you can add a player to your roster with Hall of Fame credentials, you do it. Brett has seen a lot of different situations and a lot of defenses, and he’s going to be a big asset for our team as we look to defend our division championship in 2009.”
WR Percy Harvin
“It’s a tremendous honor to be able to play with a Hall of Famer,” Harvin said today after practice. “I’m just blessed. It’s a tremendous honor in my first year to be able to play with guys of that caliber. But you add Brett to the equation and I couldn’t be in a better situation right now. Everything happens for a reason so I’m glad I’m here.”
“He’s helped me out already and he’s only been here for a couple hours,” Harvin said. “There was one play when I ran an out (route)…we hooked up but there were some little things he gave me to make the route better or to help recognize the defense.”
LG Steve Hutchinson
“Our goals haven’t changed,” Hutchinson said walking off the field after practice. “We want to build on what we did last year.
“Like I said when we reported to camp, (when) you have the opportunity to have a guy join your team that’s going to potentially make you better as a unit, I’m all for it.”
TE Visanthe Shiancoe
“He’s sent a couple of tight ends to the Pro Bowl,” Shiancoe astutely pointed out, “so I’m definitely excited. I know I’m going to get a lot of balls. I have to put in a lot of extra work to make sure I’m prepared for the balls that come to me.”
“He picked it up quick,” Shiancoe said. “He ran this offense for almost 20 years…that’s a long time. That’s almost my life. He’s been around for a long time so he’ll pick it up. He’s a professional.”
Owner Zygi Wilf
“My brother, myself and my son went down to Hattiesburg to pick up Brett and his wife,” Wilf said. “We had a great conversation coming up here and realized what a down-to-earth person he was. And we realized more so than ever that he’ll be a great fit for our team.
“We felt the opportunity was now to do it,” Wilf said. “We did not want to go in the future and say ‘What if?’ In speaking to Brett, he felt the same way. I think the fans and everyone should be quite excited about how our team keeps improving. We will do our best to fight for our division and hopefully be that consistent championship-caliber ball club that we hope to become.”
Generally, most comments are positive and understanding of Favre’s signing. Speaking to the official writer for Vikings.com makes you say semi-biased responses, but I genuinely feel that most players are accepting and even excited about the signing.
