Minnesota Twins’ pitcher Glen Perkins reportedly pulled himself out of the rotation last week, hoping to find out what is wrong with his shoulder. Perkins had an MRI performed on his shoulder today, but the team doctors didn’t find any major issues.
“The MRI came back, and there’s not much there. But he’s still got the soreness,” Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire said. “He’s still having the issues with getting loose. We’ll let Dr. Buss decide which route to go.”
We believe his “problems” are more mental than anything. When Perkins complained of “issues” last month, his shoulder checked out fine at a shoulder specialist in Los Angeles.
I’m not suggesting anything quite yet, but it is interesting that he reveals his injuries after terrible outings.
Pitcher Carl Pavano will maintain Perkin’s spot in the rotation until further notice. Another bad outing from pitcher Francisco Liriano may force Perkins to pitch through his shoulder-tightness, and return to the rotation — especially since Perkin’s shoulder (medically) appears to be normal.
