Scott Howard-Cooper (SI.com) believes Minnesota Timberwolves’ power forward Kevin Love is a legitimate candidate for Team USA. Love has been participating in Team USA mini camps, and believes he can be a ‘glorified role player’ with the Olympic squad.
According to the article, Love could debut as soon as 2010 for Turkey and the world championships, maybe with the slight delay of ’12 and the Olympics in London, but it’s a real chance at some point.
Howard-Cooper considers Love an ideal candidate, with his game and makeup perfect for international play. Cooper wrote, “[Love is a] good shooter for a big man, great passer, a rebounder to start the fast break, advanced court sense. That’s the international game.”
As a rookie, Love averaged 11.1 points and 9.1 boards per game with the Timberwolves.
