Alex Kennedy (RealGM.com) reports that Minnesota Timberwolves’ president David Kahn is going back to Spain this week, and could be working out a scenario where point guard Ricky Rubio would be dealt to the New York Knicks. Apparently, the Knicks have closed off negotiations with all free agent point guards until next week — presumably to negotiate a Rubio trade.
Kennedy got this information from a unamed insider source.
This source seems absolutely 100% speculative. Even the insider’s quotes in the report has the words “think” and “could”. In journalistic standards, if your only source (also unnamed) is saying “think” and “could”, you don’t have a very good source.
Factoring in Kahn’s comments and statements since day one of the draft regarding Rubio, we aren’t taking this report all that seriously. The Timberwolves are in position to keep Rubio’s rights, as well as wait a year or two for him to join the team, without any issues.
Meanwhile, Bill Simmons writes on his twitter, “Note to Real GM: You can’t publish crap like this. The Knicks have no 2010 pick. How the F are they getting Rubio?
Only 2 teams have the right players & cap figure assets for Minny AND make sense for Rubio. Easy to figure out. Sorry, NYK not one of the 2″
Enough said.
